Promoting political awareness among youth

Alexandria, 26 September 2005—The Arab Reform Forum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Association (YES-Egypt), is organizing training sessions, 24-29 September 2005, for university students, youth unions and youth NGOs. The training sessions aim to promote political awareness of youth regarding their legal, political and electoral rights and duties, as well as help develop their political personality, thus contributing to reform and modernization in Egypt.

The program includes a series of lectures that shed light on various subjects such as political participation, governance, the Egyptian Constitution, the social contract theory and the electoral regulations in Egypt. Lecturers include Dr. Adel Thabet, Head, Political Science Department, Alexandria University; Dr. Maged El Helw, Professor of Constitution Studies, Faculty of Law, Alexandria University; and Dr. Abdel Fattah Mady, Political Section, Alexandria University.

These training sessions are in follow-up of the conference on the role of youth in modernization and reform that was inaugurated in February 2005.
