Alexandria, 25 September 2005—On Saturday, 24 September 2005, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) announced its cooperation in the KEO Satellite Project, in a press conference at the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) at the Smart Village.

The KEO project was chosen by the UNESCO as the project of the Twenty-first Century. It features the launch of the KEO Satellite into space in 2007, carrying personal messages penned by people on Earth. The satellite will return to Earth 50,000 years from today with a collection of messages to our descendants.

KEO will also include a special section named the “New Library of Alexandria”, containing a summary of the heritage, cultures and traditions of humankind, as well as our latest accomplishments in the sciences.

The KEO project is a universal project where all people on Earth are invited to take part in offering future generations insight into our lives, expectations, doubts, desires, values, emotions and dreams.
