The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) is organizing a conference entitled “Art Deco Architecture: Mediterranean Perspective,” in cooperation with the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Alexandria, the Alexandria Cultural Foundation (Anpiemed), and the Documentation Center for Contemporary Architecture of Tuscany (CeDACoT) Italy, and in partnership with the Cultural Development Fund in Cairo. The event takes place on Monday, 8 December 2025, at 9:00 am, in the BACC Delegates Hall.
The conference is part of the global celebration of the centenary of Art Deco, an artistic and architectural movement that flourished in the early 20th century and was characterized by clear geometric lines and repetitive motifs that combine luxury and modernity. This style influenced the design of buildings, decor, and furniture in several cities around the world, including those in the Mediterranean.
The conference will feature presentations by researchers and experts from a number of European and Arab countries. This is the second in a series of three conferences dedicated to Art Deco; the first was held in Tunisia in 2024, while the third will be held in Morocco in 2026.
The event is in English.
