A Seminar on the “New Labor Law” at the BA

The BA Women Studies and Social Transformation Program, in collaboration with the National Council for Women, organized a seminar entitled “The New Labor Law: What's New and What's the Impact?” with the participation of a select group of experts and specialists in the fields of judiciary, labor, law, and human resources.

The seminar was delivered by Counselor Dr. Marian Kaldas, CEO of the Egyptian Center for Arbitration and Settlement of Non-Banking Financial Dispute; Counselor Alaa Al-Segaie, Deputy President of the Egyptian Court of Cassation; Mr. Tamer Fawqi, partner at Matouk Bassiouny law firm; Eng. Emad Nasr, President of the Human Power Association - Egypt; and Dr. Souzet Elreedy, advisor to the Federation of Egyptian Industries in Alexandria.

The event targeted judges, business owners, and employees subject to labor law, and explained the most prominent features and amendments of the new labor law, highlighting its provisions on the rights and gains of working women and its impact on the Egyptian labor market and investment climate.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the BA Academic Research Sector; and Ms. Rania Nofal, Supervisor of the Women Studies and Social Transformation Program.

It highlighted the eight most important gains for women in the new labor law, namely equal pay and rights, maternity leave and healthcare, protection against dismissal and return to work, breastfeeding periods, childcare leave, termination of the employment contract at the employee's discretion, regulation of women's employment, and the right to childcare facilities.
