The BA Mourns the Chanter Amer El-Touni

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina mourns the great chanter Amer El-Touni, Director of the Artistic Creativity Center at Al-Ghuri Dome, and founder of the Egyptian Mawlawiyah group, who passed away on Sunday, 2 February 2025, at the age of 56. Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on behalf of the Library administration and staff, extends his sincere condolences to the family and fans of the deceased.
Amer El-Touni was born in 1968 in Minya. An Egyptian chanter and musician who graduated from the Faculty of Education’s Arabic Language Department and obtained a PhD in the traditions of Mawlawiyah, he founded the Egyptian Mawlawiyah group in 1994 and presented several artistic performances that were met with great success in Egypt and abroad. The group performed in more than fifty countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Spain.
It is worth noting that Dr. Amer Al-Touni’s last public appearance took place a few days ago in a ceremony at Cairo International Book Fair, where he delivered a performance at the Plaza 1 Theater, in the presence of a large audience, at an event organized by the Cultural Development Fund.
