The Bibliotheca Alexandrina released the film The Hanging Church as part of the documentary series Aref. The film tells the history and story of “The Hanging Church”, one of the oldest churches in Egypt. It was named "The Hanging Church" for its location above a gatehouse of the Babylon Fortress, which is the Roman fortress in Old Cairo. The fortress was previously called the "Wax Palace", and was built in the same location of one of the stops of the Holy Family's journey. The wooden roof of the church was built in the form of Noah's Ark. This church is famous for the vivid harmony between architecture and spiritual values in a spot where monotheistic religions converge on the land of Egypt.

The Hanging Church is part of Aref documentary series that was launched on 21 July 2024, during the 19th round of the BA International Book Fair. Aref is a series of documentary films produced by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It addresses various aspects of cultural and natural heritage in Egypt and around the world in an unconventional perspective targeting young people. The series provides professional visual content that applies 3D graphics to narrate stories about various kinds of Egyptian heritage and adopts a smooth, concise scientific approach.
