The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) is organizing a seminar entitled “Mario and Abu al-Abbas”, presented by novelist Dr. Reem Bassiouney, Professor of Sociolinguistics at the American University in Cairo, and moderated by Dr. Shaymaa El-Sherif, Senior Research Specialist at the BA Academic Research Sector. The event will take place on Wednesday, 5 June 2024, at 3:00 pm, in the BACC Lecture Hall, and is open for public until the maximum capacity is reached.
The seminar will discuss the novel Mario and Abu al-Abbas, which depicts the relationship between the Italian architect Mario Rossi, and his creativity in the field of Islamic architecture in Egypt, and the Sufi Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, in spite of the centuries that separate them. The novel also portrays Abu Al-Abbas’s journey from Murcia in Al-Andalus to Tunisia and from Tunisia to Egypt, as well as Mario Rossi’s journey from Italy to Egypt, and the local and international circumstances and events that occurred during their lifetime.
